"We all face our own battles, and getting fit doesn't always mean losing weight. In my case, it was a need for a better nutrition routine, and sculpting some muscle onto these bones. My fitness journey began when my kids were getting into Kindergarten and 2nd grade, so it was a couple of my kiddos' friends' moms that told me to come to bootcamp. After going to bootcamp and seeing the girls compete in a fitness competition, I knew this was what my body needed. The best part? I had a great group of ladies to train with and befriend. Since then I've gained about 20 pounds of muscle, lifelong friends, and knowledge of fitness and nutrition that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I have been going to the Bailey Bootcamp classes lead by Katy for the past year and a half.
Few of the girls who attended the Bootcamp classes also trained with Katy for a bodybuilding competition and I was very interested to take part. One reason was the discipline it requires to stick to the training regime: the exercises and the diet. It was a great learning curve for me and I learned a lot about myself in the 8 months preceding the competition. Katy is a great coach and a mentor. She helped me understand the importance of properly balanced nutritional meals and recovery after hard days of training. She is always very encouraging along the way and pushes you to exceed your physical limits.
After I participated in the competition I stayed with Katy and kept up my fitness routine. I feel so much stronger than I ever felt before and more confident in my own body. My next fitness challenge is a full marathon. Strength training helps me be a better runner as well as reduce the chance of injuries.
One of the biggest unforeseen benefits that came out of my training and body transformation was that I no longer was afraid of flying. Flying was always a very stressful time for me, and I would get into a panic state before I fly. But I have noticed since I became physically stronger my mental ability to deal with stress (like flying) because so much greater. So now whenever I get on a plane, I am calm and relaxed. The reduction in my overall anxiety levels was dramatic.
I know how to fuel my body properly to maximize its fitness potential and that is all thanks to Katy and her wonderful guidance. If you are thinking of taking on a new fitness challenge or hire a personal trainer - do not hesitate, do it! The benefits are so great and will outweigh the cost in no time.
